Paihia Waterfront Redevelopment Project – Technical and operational updates
Far North Holdings provides an update every two weeks for the Paihia community on technical and operational aspects of the Paihia Waterfront Redevelopment Project.
Wave and hydrodynamic modelling
We announced in update #2 that detailed wave and hydrodynamic modelling was complete. This vital work has been done by MetOcean and Beca. The results will determine the exact shape and dimensions of the breakwaters and groynes, and assess any potential change in currents with the construction of these structures. We still expect the report to be finalised before the end of March, at which point it will be made available through the Steering Group and on the Far North Holdings website.
Detailed design – marine structures
Detailed design work continues. We still expect to be able to release tenders for the project by May.
The marine archaeological survey dive in the proposed breakwater locations has been completed. We expect in the coming weeks a written report from the archaeologist who completed the survey. We will make this report available on our website.
Design – waterfront re-development
The community steering group coordinating the Paihia community’s input to the waterfront re-development project will host a public meeting at 7pm on 22 March, at the Scenic hotel, to start the process. If you have any ideas you’d like thrown into the mix you won’t want to miss this.
