Earlier this week we attended the pre-works blessing at the site of the new Kaikohe Library and Community Hub. Hapū, locals and council representatives gathered together at dawn for an earth turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction.

Far North Holdings is managing the project on behalf of the council and the contract for the new library and community hub was awarded to local company Henwood Construction (HCL) after a tender process.

HCL was established in Kaikohe in 1993. The company has previous experience delivering projects of similar size and scope on time and on budget and has demonstrated experience working together with hapū.

More than 75 per cent of its workforce currently live in Kaikohe and all proposed subcontractors are based in the Far North District.
