Construction is now underway on a new community housing project in Kaitāia that will provide 28 one-bedroom homes designed to support independent living for Te Hiku residents aged over 50.
Delivered in partnership between Far North Holdings (FNHL), Claud Switzer Memorial Trust (CSMT), and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the project will see up to 56 community members benefit from safe, accessible, and well-designed homes by late 2026.
Twelve of the homes have been built with accessibility front of mind — six fully wheelchair accessible and a further six featuring wider doorways, level entry and accessible bathrooms. The Western Village will form part of the Switzer Residential facility on South Road, encouraging wellbeing, connection and independence.
Features include landscaped gardens with fruit trees, shared gathering areas, and recycling facilities — designed to foster a vibrant, connected community.
Far North Holdings is proud to project manage the build as part of its ongoing commitment to improving community infrastructure across the Far North.
