Refurbished Kaikohe office ready for Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services
The newly refurbished Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services office in Kaikohe has been formally
blessed, marking the completion of a project supported by Far North Holdings through our
project management and building expertise.
Led by Project Manager Hori Tane, our role was to help guide the refurbishment from design
and consenting through to construction and completion, working closely with Ngāpuhi Iwi
Social Services to ensure the finished office was practical, fit for purpose and delivered
within a tight timeframe.
Throughout the project, we worked with stakeholders to review and refine the design,
managed the tender process and provided recommendations to support contractor selection.
Our team also managed the building consent process with Far North District Council,
including coordinating and submitting the required documentation and responding to
requests for further information.
Once construction was underway, regular reporting kept the Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services
team informed on progress, variations and budget, supported by project updates and
monthly reporting.
Far North Holdings CEO Andy Nock said the completed refurbishment was a great example
of how the organisation’s expertise can support projects that deliver positive outcomes for
the community.
“It’s great to see the team at Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services moving into a space that has been designed around their needs. Being able to use our project management and building expertise to support organisations doing important work in our communities is something that we’re very proud of.”
The refurbishment responds to the growth of Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services and the need for
more space for kaimahi and whānau. A brighter office layout, a new kitchen, new ablutions
and additional meeting areas provide a more comfortable working environment.
The multifunctional boardroom opens directly to the street, better supporting tikanga Māori when
hosting pōwhiri, whānau and organisational hui.
Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services CEO, Dr Moana Eruera, said the refreshed space would make a
positive difference for both kaimahi and the whānau they work alongside.
“As our organisation has grown, we have needed more room for our team and a welcoming space for whānau. This redesign gives us both, and greater flexibility to host people in a way that reflects our tikanga. We really appreciated how helpful and easy the Far North Holdings team was to work with. Their support made the process straightforward, and delivering on schedule and within budget was a great result for us.”
With a fixed completion date, careful programme management was particularly important.
Construction sequencing was reviewed with the builder before work began, allowing early
stages including demolition and framing to progress efficiently and helping to keep the
overall project on track.

The completed offices were formally blessed last month, bringing together those involved in
delivering the project, including Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services Chief Operating Officer and
project sponsor Nicole Butler, Mark and Hazel Wigglesworth of North Interiors, Shanon
McNeil, Operations Manager at Procraft Construction. Procraft Construction builders
involved with this project were; Max Lyne (Site Foreman) and Nick Farrand (Director of
Procraft. Far North Holdings Project Manager Hori Tane.
The blessing marked an important milestone for Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services as the team
moved into its newly refurbished space, as well as the successful completion of another local
project where our project management and building expertise could help support an
organisation serving communities across the Far North.
