Far North Holdings is proud to continue its sponsorship of the iconic Tucker Thompson youth development voyages, empowering another group of young Northlanders to set sail on a life-changing adventure.

Each year, 12 students from local colleges are sponsored to take part in a 7-day voyage aboard the tall ship. More than just a sailing experience, the programme builds leadership, teamwork, resilience and self-confidence - qualities that continue to serve these young people long after they return to land.

As the Tucker flips from its summer tourism schedule into youth development mode, preparations are already underway. Crew training begins next week, covering practical drills, water safety, mental wellbeing, and a healthy dose of kōrero and kai. From there, the ship heads to Whangārei for the first youth voyage of the season.

“What I’ll remember most is the difference between the first day and the last day. We began as strangers on this trip across the vast unknown ocean but eventually became great friends,” shared one past student.
