Smooth Landings Ahead at Kaitaia Airport

Preliminary works are now underway at Kaitāia Airport, with Council contractor Downer on site preparing for a full runway reseal later this month. Wherever possible, local contractors have been engaged, reflecting a strong focus on supporting the regional economy. Far North Holdings will continue operating the aerodrome while managing delivery of the project.

This resilience programme is designed to strengthen the airport’s long-term safety, reliability and performance, ensuring it remains a vital transport link for Far North communities. The upgrade is supported by government funding through Te Tari Whakatau – Office of Treaty Settlements and Takutai Moana, alongside investment from the Far North District Council.
